Description

La ROVEJA is a legume cultivated only in central Italy (Umbria), in the area around CASCIA. Seeded for centuries for its adaptability to unfavorable climates, ROVEJA also resists at low temperatures and lack of water, typical conditions of high altitudes. It even grows spontaneously, in the slopes and in the meadows, so that shepherds once made it a basic food during the long days spent carrying the flocks to the pasture. Some scholars believe ROVEJA is a progenitor of the common pea, while for others it is a species in itself, though with strong similarities. ROVEJA soup, or ROVEJA flour-based kitchens, are typical foods of CASCIA, the birthplace of Santa Rita, known and loved all over the world. For its nutritional properties, it is recommended for vegetarians and vegan.
